Access Statement For Widdicombe Farm Touring Park


Widdicombe Farm is located in an area called Compton on the outskirts of Marldon, Paignton & Torquay and is set in 8 acres. We strive to ensure that all visitors can enjoy the accommodation, facilities and surroundings within the park. Our aim is to help in anyway that we can if you require assistance during your stay or whilst planning your visit we will be delighted to assist. Our current facilities and services offered are:


• We cater for tents, touring caravans, motorhomes and we have static caravans for hire.
• Our brochure is available in large print and we can post a copy of this access statement if required.
• We offer email and staff always accept Type Talk calls.
• Our nearest town is Torquay located 2 miles away, which has a train and bus station, both with taxi ranks.
• The public bus stops are 1483 meters (just under 1 mile) outside our park which is approximately 25–30 mins walking.
• Public bridleway immediately¬†outside the park gates takes you safely along towards the public bus stops and to an enclosed field where you can exercise your dog.
• Our nearest shop mobility is adjacent to Torquay Library, Lymington Road, Torquay. Tel: 01803 380982. There are shop mobility services in Paignton and Brixham.
• The local taxi company can take only the fold-down type wheelchair.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

• As you drive onto our park you will notice signing advising you to pull up in the yellow boxed area at the bottom of the driveway and then to report to reception.
• The yellow boxed area is 20 meters from reception the roadway is on a slight slope and is a tarmac surface.
• The reception has double doors with a width of 1.8 meters when both doors are open.
• We have a designated parking space marked outside reception which can be used when visiting the reception or using any of the facilities in the area.

Main Entrance & Reception

• In the reception there is ample room for a large wheelchair to manoeuvre and turn.
• The reception counter is 1070 cms high.
• The opening times of reception are displayed on the door along with 24-hour contact details.

Public Areas – General

• Tarmac roads service all parts of the park with the occasional speed ramps located throughout the park.
• The park is situated on the hillside with all the main facilities being in the central area, which has a slight gradual slope.
• There are tarmac and gravel footpaths around the park leading to facilities and there are a few sections with steps and handrails between the terraces. The pathways are all a minimum of 1 meter wide.
• There are benches located around the central area of the park.

Public Areas – WC

• The park has three toilet blocks.
• All of these amenity buildings have adequate shower facilities however only one has designated disabled suites, these are housed in the main amenity building.

Restaurant, Take Away

• The restaurant has accessible parking bay directly outside the building.
• The restaurant is accessed through reception and the shop with double doors at both entry points with a width of 1.8 meters when both opened. However there is a single door width of 80 cms upon entry to the restaurant.
• Tables and chairs in the restaurant can be rearranged on request to accommodate wheelchairs.
• All public areas are non-smoking.
• The disabled suite is directly outside the restaurant.


• The laundry has a parking bay outside.
• The laundry has access with two small steps at a height of 14cms and a door width of 670 cms.
•All washing machines and tumble driers are front loading with the spinner loading from the top.
• An ironing board is at a height of 85cm and the coin meter can be reached from the sitting position.
• There is seating in the room and immediately outside.


• Accessed via reception and has double door access into the shop with a width of 1.8 meters when both doors are opened.
• There is a parking bay outside the shop.
• The shop is on one level.
• There is ample room within for a large wheelchair to manoeuvre and turn.
• The counter is 107 cms high
• The staff will assist if required.

Gordon's Bar

• Gordon's Bar is accessed via a disabled ramp through double doors of a width of 1.6 meters when both doors are opened.
• Gordon's Bar once inside is all on one level.
• Chairs and tables can be moved to accommodate wheelchairs.
• The disabled suite is situated outside of the Bar and is 20 meters on a tarmac roadway.
• There is a parking bay outside the bar within 46 meters of the main doors.
• Gordon's Bar is non-smoking including vapour and¬† e-cigarettes.
• Some entertainment programmes have flashing lighting effects and loud music – please check with our reception team.

Holiday Accommodation

• Our static caravans have 15 steps with handrail leading down to the sloping tarmac pathway accessing the units.
• The units have two bedrooms sleeping up to 4 people with the lounge area converting into a third bedroom for another two people.
• Parking for the units is in a designated car park area at the top of the steps.
• All units are non-smoking.

Local Attractions

• We have a wide variety of information in our Laundry room and our staff have a vast knowledge of the local area.
• We are approximately 3 miles from the town centre and beaches in Torquay and approximately 2.5 - 3 miles from the town and beaches in Paignton.

Grounds and Gardens

• Our park is set on a hillside although the terraces in each of our fields are spacious and level.
• The roadway surfaces are mainly tarmac with a few areas having a stone chipping surface.
